Process Journal #1

My topic has change very drastically from the beginning. I actually start my project over the summer, but then I found new inspiration when I took the 3D graphic class, which I’m really glad because I finally found what I really wanted to do. As for the “backward planning” process, I find that to be quite difficult because my lack of knowledge of the topic. Even know it is something that I am interested in I don’t have much background knowledge on the topic. I’m not sure how in depth or detail you want us to be when writing the backward planning, but I was only able to give general idea of the step that need to be take which I’m sure that they probably many steps that I miss or don’t even know about. That is why I believe timeline should be written after some amount of research has been done, but I still think it is beneficial because it keep you on track and give you general idea of the time you have.

I am really excited about the project in general because I will be doing some digital art for my project and it is something I always been interested in but I never have the opportunity or know how to start, but this project give me the opportunity to pursue my interest, so that is very exciting. However I am nervous that I won’t be able to reach my goal, because it is something I don’t have experience with and I’m afraid that the project won’t be complete.

As for my area of interest I guess I just choose the one that I feel suit my project the most, which is “Human ingenuity” because I am creating something, but the feedback I received ask me what is the purpose of creating it. I suppose I should put more thought into answering the question right now.

Process Journal #2

My project ideas have been changing over time and I still have not settle on a definite idea yet, which i'm not to concerned about at the moment because it keep my project open up to new possibility. As of right now I have change my plan from creating a rover simulator to making a 2D space shooter game instead because of change in interest and resources. As for sources I have found the required 4 sources but I feel I should go above the limit and explore more option as well. About the specification, Im still not quite sure if i have a clear understand of what that is. According to my Supervisor specification are the steps I will take to achievement my goal so I will be sure to discuss that my supervisor on our upcoming meeting and lastly I need to plan a meeting with my mentor.

The most helpful part about meeting my supervisor is it help me stay on track and meet all the require deadline. I have found my mentor but we haven't scheduled a meeting yet. My mentor is Mr. Cornell because I received a permission from Miss Paricio to have Mr. Cornell as my mentor because it is hard to find those who have a good knowledge of this topic. Although I hate to admitted that I have only minimal effort to search for mentor outside of school. The most challenging part about this project right now for me is time management because work and assignment from other classes have been overwhelming and school have been a lot more challenging this year so it put quite a bit of pressure and stress on me, so I need to find solution for that quickly.  

Process Journal #3

This project have been a very good experience for and I love how it a project that is all about what you want to do. The only down side to it is probably the time constraint, which I feel limited the the possibilities of the project. However it is also a good thing because without the time limit there might not a the drive to force me to work. So the time constraint have both pro and con to it. Even though I feel that something the personal project really put me under a lot of stress because sometime I was unable to keep up with regular school and then we have this added to the regular work, but it teach a great lesson on time management which I know will be a very important skill in life. However I don’t feel like I have master the time management skill yet and I hope that will improve.

As for my area of interest or the AOI, I choose to focus on human Ingenuity, since I am creating something or in this case I am learning the basic coding through making a simple space shooter game. I feel that I understand the concept of the AOI however I am having a hard time applying it to my project. Many of my peer’s project have to do with raising awareness for a cause, which I can easily see how it related to the AOI. The question for my AOI is why do we create? I don’t see how my project could eventually turn into something that would create big impact yet so I conclude that sometime we create just for the sake of gaining knowledge, which is exactly what I am doing because this whole thing is very new to me and I have no background knowledge of the topic prior to the start of the project.

The researching process of this project is quite informal because I see it as something that should be learn through hand on experience. The information I gather for this project is mainly from people with experience such as my mentor and peers along with online tutorial from the official website which is both credible and reliable. Despite not having a formal source of information like book, I really enjoy this way of researching because it allow me to interact and get help from those with more experience and it improve my communication skill. As for progress I have created a blog to keep track of my progress and post what I work on each time which I find is a great way to prepare for a presentation because you can look back and see what you did if you forgot the details along the way. Another thing I absolutely love about this project is is all about what you what to do and the guideline is rather loose, give you more room to breath.

Process Journal #4

Finally almost a year worth of work of work is complete. I am really proud of this project if I do say so myself. I learn a lot throughout the span of this project, I even learn more than what I plan to. I am most proud of the project in general because when I first start I didn’t know anything about the topic I choose aside from the fact that it interest me. I was also afraid that I wouldn’t be complete or turn out well, but turn out that there nothing to be afraid of at all, I was very fun and I enjoy the freedom that we get with this project. However there is a lot of struggle along the way. Since my entire project is software base everything is done on a computer and the biggest issues I ran into during the process was data lost. During the span of the project I got a new computer and something went wrong when the data was move so most of my project was gone at that point I was able to recover from that situation but it set me back a lot and I was unable to include all the feature i wanted in time. There also minor struggles when those are just part of learning. This project help me become very patient and more careful to prevent these kind of situation again. As for my AOI, I choose Human ingenuity since I am creating something or in this case I am learning the basic coding through making a simple space shooter game. I simply said that the reason is because I simply seek new knowledge which to me is a big part of human ingenuity. As human we always seek new knowledge and to discover new thing and gain knowledge.

If I can go back in time and give myself an advice it would be to not procrastinate and plan better. I still struggle with time management.

I find the dress rehearsal to be very useful because you get to adjust yourself to be more comfortable with speaking to the audience because I have stage fright and I’m really scared of public speaking, but I choose oral presentation because I think i would be even worse at writing. Dress rehearsal also allow you have time to improve upon your presentation before the Super Saturday. It give me a lot more confident and my supervisor also point out the strong and weak points of my presentation. This allow me to make any changes to the weak point and keep the strong part and make them even better. I hope I don’t mess up due to stage fright during Super Saturday. That is my biggest fear right now. I hope that everything will go well.
